On Thursday 14th June 2018, the Senior Room students travelled to Watheroo to participate in the Joint Schools Camp. The students were divided into groups and completed a number of different workshops over the two days based around STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics). One of the activities involved the students being ‘entrepreneurs’, where they had to think of a problem in the community and create a way that a robot could help us solve the problem. They then programmed a robot to show how it would help us. Another activity involved the students being ‘choreographers’, where they had to come up with a series of dance moves to music and also make a Beebot robot move in time to music. The third activity involved the students being ‘artists’ similar to M.C. Escher. In this activity the students created a tessellating shape and then traced this onto paper and made a design out of it. The final activity involved the students being ‘engineers’, where they had to construct a mechanical arm which used levers and hydraulics to make an arm move. The students should be proud of the way they behaved over the two days as well as the way they gave everything a go. Thanks to Paul Seymour and Kade Georgy for coming over to help with the afternoon activities. A huge thank you and well done to our P & C, especially Clare Douglas and Shilo Bailey, for the great job you did with the catering. My lasagne was delicious!
